Foreigners only want free, fair polls. Their demand aligns with govt’s desire.
Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has said the BNP’s claim that foreigners do not want to see the Awami League government in power in the future is nothing but gossip.
"The election will be held in accordance with the constitution; if anyone refrains from participating, it will not be postponed for them,” the advisor said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and workshop in Dhaka's Nawabganj on Thursday as the country gears up for the 12th parliamentary election.
“Most parties are prepared to take part in the upcoming election."
"The only thing foreigners want is for upcoming elections in Bangladesh to be free, fair and peaceful. Their demand aligns with the government's desire. The government is also committed to conducting an unrestricted and fair election,” Salman said.
He called on leaders and activists of the Awami League to go to non-partisans in order to shore up support for the election.
“For the upcoming election, Awami League workers should not only reach out to Awami League supporters but also extend their outreach to neutral voters. Even those who will not vote for the Awami League should also be reached out to," he said.
Highlighting the development of the country, he directed leaders and activists of the party to seek votes in favour of boat, the electoral symbol of the ruling Awami League.
