Many passengers are feared missing after a trawler capsized in the Mongla River in Bagerhat on Sunday morning.

Locals reported that the trawler was carrying more passengers than its capacity.

Fortunately, most of the passengers managed to swim to shore immediately.

Mongla Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nishat Tamanna said: "We are keeping track of the situation immediately after the trawler accident, checking if any passengers are missing, using the municipality's CCTV cameras."

However, the administration has not yet been able to confirm the number of people missing.

Local divers, the Coast Guard, and fire service members started the search and rescue operation immediately after the incident.

The cyclone is predicted to make landfall on Sunday, affecting the coasts of Bangladesh and India’s West Bengal.
