A Dhaka court has placed Jhenaidah District Awami League General Secretary Saidul Karim Mintu on an eight-day remand in a case filed over the abduction of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain's court gave this order on Thursday.
The investigation officer of the case Detective Branch (DB) Police Assistant Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman produced the accused in the court and applied for 10 days of remand.
Lawyers on behalf of Saidul Karim Mintu applied for bail seeking cancellation of remand but for the state, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu opposed it.
After hearing both sides, the court ordered his remand for 8 days.
DB Police arrested Saidul Karim Mintu from Dhanmondi for questioning on June 11. After interrogation, he was shown arrested in this case.
MP Anwarul Azim's daughter Mumtarin Ferdous filed this case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on the evening of May 12.

Besides, on June 9, Jhenaidah District Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu was remanded by the court for 7 days.
MP Anar crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. Anar went to his Indian friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.
The following day, he went out at noon to see a doctor and was supposed to return in the evening. However, he apparently went to Delhi instead and sent a WhatsApp message to Biswas, saying he would call if necessary.
Since then, he could not be reached by phone.
On May 18, Gopal Biswas filed a GD regarding Anar's disappearance at Barahnagar police station. But this member of parliament who has served three times in a row has not been found.
On May 22, news spread that Anar was murdered in flat number BU 56 of a residential building called Sanjiva Gardens in the New Town area near Kolkata. Traces of blood were found inside the house. But the body was not found there.
