Former Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Ziarul Islam has testified before a Dhaka court against Rabiul Islam Apon alias Arav Khan and others in a case filed over the murder of Special Branch Inspector Md Mamun Emran Khan in 2018.

The witness testified in the court of Dhaka's First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Quader on Thursday.

Later, the defense lawyers cross-examined the witness. The testimonies of 15 out of 38 witnesses in the case have been completed.

Arav Khan's lawyer Ruhul Amin confirmed the matter.

The other accused in this case are Suraiya Akhtar Kaya, Rahmat Ullah, Swapan Sarkar, Mizan Sheikh, Atiq Hasan, Sarwar Hasan and Didar Pathan. Arav and Kaya are absconding among them.

Arav Khan, a gold trader, came to the limelight following media reports that cricketer Shakib Al Hasan was visiting Dubai to attend the inauguration of his jewellery shop in Dubai.

Consequently, the police launched an investigation into the matter. According to police sources, Arav Khan started a gold business in Dubai with financial help from a former senior police officer.

Police inspector Mamun was killed in Banani on July 7, 2018. Three days after this incident, his brother filed a murder case.

After the investigation, on March 31, 2019, the police filed a charge sheet in court against eight people including Rahmat Ullah and Rabiul Islam.
