BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said several organizations and groups are working to keep the interim government in power for an indefinite period.
"They (the interim government) will completely change everything, implement all the reforms. In that case, there will be no need for the people or parliament," Fakhrul said at a discussion in the auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Monday.
The BNP leader mentioned a recent survey published in newspapers which claimed 80% of people wanted this government to stay in power as long as they wished.
“I do not know where they got this information. The public will never accept this. I think it is important to be cautious when publishing such reports so as not to cause confusion."
Fakhrul also expressed concern that even knowledgeable individuals in society were now making confusing statements.
"I am astonished when I see highly educated and influential individuals in society making statements that are highly misleading. When some of those in government say a new political party needs to be formed, it is shocking. Who gave them this authority? Where did they get the mandate to say a new party should be formed? How can the people trust that they are acting impartially?" the politician added.
