Awami League to respond politically to BNP's black flag protests

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has suggested that BNP leaders cover their faces with black cloth, saying the people of Bangladesh have rejected the party for five more years.

“The Awami League believes in democracy; we will reply to their political program politically,” Quader, who is also the road transport and bridges minister, said about the BNP’s upcoming countrywide processions carrying black flags, at a press conference at his party’s Dhanmondi office on Monday afternoon.

The first sessions of the 12th Parliament will get underway on Tuesday. On such a day, when the president would address parliament, the BNP would hold demonstrations with black flags, Quader said.

The minister further suggested that the BNP cover the homes of its leaders and its offices with black cloth. He added: “BNP leaders should keep their faces covered in black cloth for five more years as they were shown the red card on January 7.”

Quader expressed confidence that the Awami League would not be ousted by any means, responding to the BNP's attempts.

Meanwhile, discussing initiatives to reduce the prices of essentials, he said the newly formed government had prioritized this issue from the beginning of its tenure.
