BNP claims govt gave permission
Three doctors from the United States (US) are set to arrive in Bangladesh to treat BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who has been undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital for more than two months.
They are expected to reach Dhaka in the next one or two days.
BNP officials have claimed the government has given permission for the doctors to treat ailing Khaleda Zia.
However, officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare could not be reached for comment.
BNP Chairperson's Media Wing Member Shairul Kabir Khan said Khaleda Zia’s family and BNP have been repeatedly asking the government to send her abroad for treatment. “As the government is not taking any steps regarding the matter, the BNP chairperson’s family and the party are trying to bring doctors from abroad to Bangladesh.”
According to sources, the three doctors coming from the US are Dr Christo Georgiades, Dr James Peter Adam Hamilton, and Dr Hamid Ahmed Abdur Rab.
Khaleda Zia has been under treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital city since August 9. Her health has not shown significant improvement.
The former prime minister has long been suffering from various ailments, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung, heart, and eye problems.
