Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has said there is a need to reform Article 70 of the constitution.

Asaduzzaman shared his views during a conversation with journalists at his office on Thursday.

"The interim government, led by Dr Muhammad Yunus, has so far carried out all its work following the constitution. The Supreme Court's Appellate Division provided written validation before the formation of this government," the attorney general said.

He remarked that six commissions formed by the interim government for state reform reflected the aspirations of the people.

"Personally, I want to see reforms in Article 70 of the constitution. If Article 70 is reformed, it will prevent the establishment of a fascist regime."

Article 70 states that a person elected as a member of parliament in an election in which he was nominated as a candidate by a political party shall vacate his seat if he (a) resigns from that party or (b) votes in parliament against that party. However, he will not be disqualified for subsequent election as a member of parliament.
