Second highest allocation to power sector at 15.47%

The Annual Development Program (ADP) has been revised with its allocation reduced by Tk18,000 crore. After the reduction due to ministries' inability to spend their allocated funds, the size of the revised ADP now stands at Tk245,000 crore.

The original ADP was Tk263,000 crore.

The revised ADP was approved in a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) at the NEC Conference Room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.

Planning Commission sources reveal that not all ministries can spend the allocated funds in time. As a result, the expenditure is being reduced each time.

The revised ADP allocates 25.82% to the transport and communication sector, amounting to Tk63,263.31 crore.

The second highest allocation goes to the power sector at 15.47%, totalling Tk37,896 crore.

The commission reports that the self-financed portion of the revised ADP for the fiscal year 2023-24 has decreased by Tk7,500 crore.

The self-financing in the ADP was Tk169,000 crore, which has dropped to Tk161,500 crore.

Additionally, the allocation from foreign aid is reduced by Tk10,500 crore, bringing the total foreign aid in the revised ADP to Tk83,500 crore.
