Murder plot against Joy: Mahmudur Rahman granted bail

A Dhaka court has granted bail to Mahmudur Rahman, former acting editor of the daily Amar Desh, in a case filed over an alleged plot to abduct and kill Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain granted the bail after a hearing on Thursday.
On September 29, A Dhaka court sent Mahmudur Rahman to jail.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque passed the order after Rahman surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case. After the hearing, the court sent him to jail rejecting his bail petition.
Mahmudur Rahman was convicted by the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACCM) Asaduzzaman Noor on August 17 last year.
Senior journalist Shafique Rehman, and Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskrit Sangtha leaders Mohammadullah, Rizvi Ahmed Sejar and Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan were also convicted in the same case.
The court handed down the verdict on the basis of false, fabricated, and baseless allegations in a farcical trial, advocate Mesbah said.
According to the case details, the accused persons held a meeting at home and abroad for kidnapping and killing Joy, the then ICT adviser to Sheikh Hasina in September 2011.
