Upazila polls: MP Suman accused of violating code of conduct

UNO received a complaint from another chairman aspirant
Habiganj-4 MP Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman has been accused of violating the electoral code of conduct by allegedly campaigning for a chairman candidate in Chunarughat Upazila Parishad election.
Md Abu Taher, another chairman candidate of the upazila, filed a complaint to the assistant returning officer and Chunarughat upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) on Saturday.
The Chunarughat Upazila Parishad election will be held on June 5.
According to the complaint, Habiganj-4 constituency MP Suman has been seeking votes for his preferred chairman candidate Raihan Ahmed, announcing donations and promising to provide cash to the voters.
The MP has also been accused of recently installing a transformer in the Silpara area of Shatiajuri union after taking money from chairman candidate Raihan. Later, at a meeting, he urged the residents to vote for Raihan.
Chunarughat UNO and Assistant Returning Officer Ayesha Akhter said she had received a complaint in this regard.
MP Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman could not be reached for comment.
