‘We do not have the authority to suspend the new curriculum at will’
Following the transition to the new interim government, rumours have circulated on social media claiming that the new secondary education curriculum introduced by the previous government has been suspended.
However, National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Prof Farhadul Islam clarified that this information is incorrect.
"It is a matter of the government's decision. NCTB cannot suspend the curriculum," Professor Farhadul Islam said.
He further explained: "We recently postponed a four-day workshop, but we do not have the authority to suspend the new curriculum at will. A government decision is required for such matters."
Despite various discussions and criticisms, the new curriculum was introduced in the 2023 academic year for classes one, six, and seven under the previous government. This year, the new curriculum has been extended to classes two, three, eight, and nine.
Students in grade are expected to participate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Public Assessment in 2025. If the evaluation is not completed in December, it will be concluded in January 2026, according to officials.
The new curriculum is also scheduled for implementation in grades five and 10 in 2025, grade 11 in 2026, and grade 12 in 2027.
