July Shaheed Smrity Foundation General Secretary and Anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Sarjis Alam has said that Awami League men will not only be allowed to enter Gulistan Zero point, but they wont even be able to come within a few kilometers of it.
Addressing Awami League men as members of “Rumour League”, he added that if they attempt to spread rumors in any location, they will be collectively resisted.
Sarjis Alam made these comments during a protest on Sunday at Zero Point in the capital.
Sarjis said: "When the Rumor League sees they have no power on the streets, and when they see that discerning students and citizens are present across the country, they have no face to show. Over the past 16 years, they’ve disgraced themselves, smearing black marks on their leaders and then fleeing. If I had a shred of morality, if I had done good work, had integrity, and boldness, I wouldn’t have fled the country. United student forces wouldn’t be opposing them. Yet, they themselves have smeared black marks on their faces and fled."
The anti-discrimination student movement called for a mass rally at Zero Point in the capital on Sunday at 12pm, in commemoration of Shaheed Noor Hossain Day, demanding the trial of the “fallen autocrat Awami League.”
They made the announcement following Awami League’s decision to host a protest march at Zero Point at 3pm, in remembrance of Shaheed Noor Hossain and in support of democratic rights.
Meanwhile, from around 11pm on Saturday, students and citizens started gathering at Zero Point (Shaheed Noor Hossain Square).
They took positions there to prevent the Awami League from holding their program.
By 12:30am, more than a hundred people had gathered, chanting slogans against the Awami League.
Additionally, BNP and leaders of its affiliate organizations gathered in front of the Awami League’s central office in Gulistan, chanting slogans.
