Shahjahan Omar addresses himself as youngest member of AL

Appreciating BNP’s expelled vice chairman Barrister Shahjahan Omar joining the Awami League, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the son of the house has returned home.

She said this while introducing the candidates of Awami League and seeking votes for them in the election rally of Awami League at Bangabandhu Udyan in Barisal city on Friday.

Sheikh Hasina, also president of Awami League, said: "Barrister Mohammad Shahjahan Omar has left the terrorist party BNP and now he has boarded the Boat. Thus the son of the house has returned home.”

Shahjahan Omar, the expelled vice chairman of BNP and the Awami League candidate for the Jhalakathi-1 constituency said that he is the youngest member of the Awami League.

“I am the youngest member of your party. Hope you will accept me as the youngest member. Although I am the youngest member in Awami League politics but very old in the spirit of Joy Bangla.”

On November 30, BNP expelled Barrister Shahjahan Omar for violating party discipline, after he submitted a nomination paper as an Awami League candidate for the Jhalakathi-1 constituency.

On November 29, Shahjahan was released on bail from Kashimpur Central Jail.

He was arrested in a case filed for setting a bus on fire in Dhaka’s New Market area on November 4.
