‘Once committee sends us list, we will publish it’

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque has announced that the list of razakars will be divided into two categories.

“One category will include those who actively participated, and the other will list those who registered as razakars to save their lives,” the minister said this while talking to reporters after the Deputy Commissioners' Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Tuesday.

AKM Mozammel Haque said: "There is a separate committee for the list of razakars. We had tried to publish the list that was officially available. However, it was found that the names of many important individuals or those who were in favour of independence had appeared on the list, which led to protests from the public. But their names were in the records. Now, we have divided it into two categories.

"One category includes those who actively worked, such as guiding the Pakistani military, assisting in burning houses, looting, and fighting against the freedom fighters with weapons and training. There is a list for them. The other category is for those who registered as razakars to save their lives. Perhaps there was nothing else they could do then, " he added.

He further said: "There is a lot of confusion and disagreement about this. So, it is a complex issue. Nonetheless, a committee has been formed under the leadership of Shahjahan Khan. They are working. Once the committee sends us the list, we will publish it."

"We have instructed the district commissioners to increase supervision and efforts to ensure that activities like preserving mass graves, wartime historical sites, and constructing Bir Nibash for freedom fighters are carried out properly. Additionally, directives have been given to prioritize and address the problems and issues faced by freedom fighters," the Liberation War Affairs minister added.
