Flood situation to improve in next 24 hours, says disaster management ministry

The flood situation across the country is expected to improve within the next 24 hours, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief announced today.

Water levels in all rivers are receding, and no heavy rainfall is predicted in the coming days.

At a press conference, Additional Secretary K M Ali Reza provided an update while briefing on the ongoing relief efforts.

He reported that over 12 lakh families, totaling 58 lakh people across 11 districts, have been affected by the recent flooding. The flood has so far claimed 31 lives.

The fatalities include 12 from Cumilla, 2 from Feni, 5 from Chattogram, 1 from Khagrachhari, 6 from Noakhali, 1 from Brahmanbaria, 1 from Lakshmipur, and 3 from Cox's Bazar.

Additionally, two individuals remain missing in Moulvibazar.

In response to the disaster, the government has opened 4,003 shelters, providing refuge to 540,510 people and 39,531 livestock. To address health concerns in the affected regions, 619 medical teams have been deployed.

The ministry assured that sufficient relief materials are available across all affected districts. Both government and non-government organisations are working to distribute aid efficiently in the flood-hit areas.

In collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management, the Anti-Discrimination Students' Movement has sent 88,500 packets of dry food, clothing, and water to the affected regions. The ministry is maintaining continuous communication with coordinators to ensure smooth relief operations.

The deputy commissioners in the affected areas have been instructed to coordinate with the army, navy, air force, Fire Service and Civil Defense, medical teams, and volunteers to ensure efficient disaster management and relief distribution.
