1,151 BGB platoons deployed countrywide ahead of polls

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is deploying 1,151 platoons (34,530 members) across Bangladesh to maintain peace and order during the upcoming national polls.
Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) at BGB headquarters, confirmed the development to the media Friday morning.
BGB will work as a mobile and striking force to maintain peace and order from Friday to January 10, 2024 under "Aid to Civil Power" to assist the local administration, he added.
Army troops were also scheduled to be deployed on Friday but were later delayed to January 3.
Army personnel will be deployed across the country from January 3 to January 10 to help maintain law and order before, during, and after the upcoming national polls.
The national election is scheduled to be held on January 7 amid boycott by some political parties including BNP and its allies.
