The situation is dire for domestic animals, children, and pregnant women.

Heavy rains and upstream water surges have exacerbated the flood situation in Sundarganj upazila, Gaibandha district.

Officials report at least 20,000 people from 4,900 families across six unions are marooned, with unofficial estimates exceeding 25,000. The government has begun distributing aid, but the situation remains critical, especially for vulnerable groups like children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Floodwaters have inundated agricultural fields, destroying crops, and river erosion has damaged houses. This flooding is a recurring issue, with an average of 5,000 houses and thousands of acres of farmland submerged annually.

Local authorities are taking action. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tariqul Islam assures round-the-clock monitoring and local efforts to manage the crisis. A list of affected people has been sent to higher authorities, likely to request further assistance.
