Flash flood threat looms as heavy rainfall continues in Sylhet

105mm of rainfall recorded in 3 hours on Thursday morning
Water levels of all major rivers in Sylhet keep rising for the last few days due to continuous heavy rain, triggering fears of flash flood,
Sylhet Deputy Magistrate Sheikh Russel Hasan on Thursday ordered all government officials of all upazilas and district administrations to remain prepared to tackle the possible flood.
Sylhet Weather Observatory Centre recorded 105mm of rainfall from 6am to 9am on Thursday while 349mm rainfall was recorded in India’s Cherrapunji in the past 24 hours.
In a text message, the DC said 535mm rainfall was recorded in Sylhet and Cherrapunji till 12pm on Thursday and so all officials under the district have been asked to remain alert.
Shah Md Sajib Hossain, assistant meteorologist of Sylhet Weather Office, said the people Sylhet has been experiencing rains or thundershowers since Thursday morning which will continue.
All have been asked to be aware of lightning strikes.
