DMP: 64 buses torched in Dhaka since October 28

12 caught red-handed during attacks


A total of 64 buses were set on fire in the capital from October 28 to November 9, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

So far 64 cases have been filed with different police stations in connection with the arson attacks.

DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) Khandaker Mahid Uddin revealed the information at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre on Friday.

The DMP official said that these subversive activities were carried out centring political programs.

Meanwhile, 12 people were caught red-handed by people and police while trying to set vehicles on fires.

Some of them got on the bus as passengers.

Petrol, gunpowder, matches, cotton, old clothes, among other items, were seized from them the arrested attackers.  

 A miscreant died while setting a fire and escaping in Mohammadpur,

A youth named Nayem, 22, died in a fire set by arsonists on October 29 around 3:30am while another youth named Rabiul Islam, 25, was burnt. Both were helpers of the ‘Asim Paribahan’ bus.

The additional commissioner said that police will take legal action in case of vandalizm, arson, burning someone in the name of political program.

He further warned that no one should engage in any destructive activities in the name of a political agenda centring blockade program.
