Tensions flared once again in Chittagong as clashes erupted between police and students advocating for quota reforms. The confrontation occurred at Cheragi Pahar intersection in Kotwali police station area on Monday afternoon.

Clashes began around 4 p.m. at Cheragi Pahar intersection, after students had gathered and started chanting slogans from approximately 3:30 p.m.

In an attempt to disperse the crowd, police officers fired tear gas shells at the students, leading to their retreat from the area.

Students had initially planned a protest at Jamal Khan Press Club around 3 p.m. However, police activity and subsequent arrests of three individuals, including a student from a private university, prevented them from holding the program.

Following the disruptions at Jamal Khan, students moved a few hundred yards to Cheragi Pahar Mor, where they resumed their protest. The demonstration saw significant participation from female students.

Protesters also attempted to assemble in the Kazi Deuri area around 3 p.m., but their efforts were thwarted by the presence of army vehicles and a police team.

Kazi Tarek Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner of City Police, addressed the situation, stating, "Permission must be obtained from the police for such gatherings. The students did not have permission, and while the curfew is relaxed, gatherings are still prohibited. We will address any violations of the law with due diligence and patience."

The situation remains fluid as authorities continue to manage the protests and enforce regulations.
