Dismisses concerns about BNP’s hartal on polling day

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has said anyone attempting to sabotage Sunday’s general election will face dire consequences.

"The police have completed their preparations for the 12th national election. Every police member has been briefed on their duties. We will work to keep 42,025 polling stations across the country safe," the IGP said while briefing reporters about the security measures put in place for the national election, at Willes Little Flower School and College in the capital's Kakrail on Friday afternoon.

Assuring the citizens of the country, he said: "Intelligence agencies, various units of law enforcement agencies and the administration have completed all preparations to fulfil their election duties."

If anyone takes any opportunity to create chaos, they will be brought to justice, he added.

In response to a question about the BNP’s hartal on polling day, the police chief said the people are looking forward to the election. “They will go to the polling stations to vote. I think the hartal enforcers will be nowhere to be found during the election.”

“Adequate security arrangements have been made at all centres… Local administrations, returning officers and all law enforcement agencies are working together,” he said.
