8 People died in four districts due to floods

Due to heavy rains and the opening of the dams, heavy floods have occurred in Feni, Noakhali, Comilla, Lakshmipur, Brahmanbaria, Cox's Bazar, Khagrachari, Chittagong, Habiganj, Moulvibazar due to the opening of dams. Millions of people's homes and crops were submerged in the flood water. A humanitarian disaster has been created in those areas. Of these, eight deaths have been reported in four districts. Comilla

Four people have died in Comilla so far due to ongoing floods. Two of them drowned in the flood water, one was electrocuted in the rain and one died when a tree fell on his head.

The deceased are Keramat Ali (45) of Daudpur area of ​​Nangalkot municipality, Kishore Rafi (15) of Chota area of ​​Comilla town, Shahadat Hossain (34) son of Kanu Mia of Sonakatia village of Chauddagram upazila and the name of the child who drowned in Laksam is not known.

Nangalkot Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Debashish Chowdhury, quoting locals, said that Keramat Ali of Daudpur area of ​​Nangalkot fell under a local bridge while fishing on Wednesday night. When he got lost in the strong current, local people started searching for him. After a while, his body was found a little away from the spot. The local people rescued him and took him to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday (August 21) afternoon, a teenager named Rafi (15) from Comilla Nagar died after being electrocuted by touching an electric pole in the rain. Doctor Yobair Hossain of Comilla General Hospital confirmed this.

An expatriate named Shahadat Hossain (34) died when a tree fell while fishing in the flood waters of Chouddagram. The incident took place in Sonakatia (ideal village) Purbapara area of ​​Chauddagram municipality on Wednesday morning. Trinath Saha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chouddagram police station confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, a lawyer named Sohrab Hossain died due to electrocution in the rain. After leaving his pregnant wife at the diagnostic center at Saladin intersection in Comilla city, she died after getting caught in an electric wire falling in the rain water. Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Hossain confirmed the matter.

Cox's Bazar

Over two hundred villages in Cox's Bazar have been flooded due to several days of continuous rain and at least 300,000 people are trapped in water. The regional and rural roads of these areas have been submerged in water and traffic has stopped. Apart from this, two people died due to drowning.

They died on Thursday (August 22). The deceased are Saching Marma (26) and Amjad Hochan (22) of Ramu Upazila.

Meanwhile, the flood situation has worsened in Eidgaon, Chakaria-Pekua and Ramu. Houses and shops were submerged in water. People of hundreds of villages of these upazilas are running to safe shelter.

Residents of Kajorbil, Dengarchar, Paschim Bomankhil, Jumpara, Patalbarpara, Rajghat, Jauchpara, Morichyachar, Jumchari, Purvjumchari, Moinyakata, Purbabomankhil, Bomankhil and Mazhirkata of Gorjania in Ramu Upazila have been trapped by water.

Roman, a resident of Ramu, said that various low-lying areas of Ramu have been flooded due to continuous rain. Apart from this, two people died after being swept away by the torrent of water.

People of Islamabad, Pokkhali and Islampur areas of Indgao upazila have also become waterlogged. Fish cages, cattle farms were washed away.

Youth Red Crescent team leader Azizul Islam Arju said that many people have been trapped in the mountain water. They can't cook. Relief operations are needed right now.

Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shaheen Imran said that the low-lying areas of some upazilas of Cox's Bazar have been flooded due to continuous rain. Preparations are underway for rescue operations and distribution of dry food.

Feni

One person died after drowning in flood water in Phulgazi upazila of Feni. But his identity is not known.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief informed this.

On Thursday, the Ministry said that 1 lakh 89 thousand 663 families in Comilla, Feni, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar were trapped in water from last Tuesday till today Thursday. 17 lakh 96 thousand 248 people have been affected.

Brahmanbaria

A pregnant woman named Subarna Akhtar drowned in the flood water caused by the landslide in Akhaura of Brahmanbaria. The incident took place in Birchandrapur village of Sadar Union of the upazila around 2 pm on Wednesday. Surbana Akhtar is the wife of Parvez Mia of Birchandrapur village.

According to local sources, heavy rain started in Akhaura from Tuesday (August 20) night. From Wednesday morning, water started entering at high speed from India through the canal running beside the Akhaura land port. At one point the entire land port area was flooded with water. The passenger crossing and import-export work of the port was stopped.

The water from the mountain has also entered the village. Water entered Subarna's house. Subarna's brother first left his first child on the street to take them to a safe haven. He was supposed to take Suvarna later. However, while leaving the house in a hurry, Subarna stumbled and fell into the water and drowned. Later, his brother and local people rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Akhaura Upazila Health Complex Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Lutfur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that Subarna was brought to the hospital in an unconscious state. Relatives said that he drowned after falling into the mountain stream. However, Subarna died before being brought to the hospital.
