Says oil prices will be set within one week

State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu has said there will be no shortage of any essential commodities during the coming month of Ramadan.

The tariff on 4 products has already been reduced on the instructions of the prime minister, the state minister told reporters after exchanging views with local Awami League leaders and activists at his residence in Deldua, Tangail, on Friday morning.

“Oil prices will be set after we sit with importers and producers within the week. Besides, the tariff on dates has been reduced.”

The state minister said: “India has agreed to supply us with onions and sugar. We hope to have an uninterrupted supply of daily commodities from India and other neighbouring countries.”

“There is no shortage of rice. We have approximately 1.7 million tons of rice in stock. The agriculture minister has said Aman crops are excellent,” he added.

Titu said he will make sure that no businessman can monopolize the market.

“The TCB (Trading Corporation of Bangladesh) will play a significant role so that we do not have our entire supply chain hostage to a few companies,” he added.
