Expressed concern that fair elections are being undermined

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the aspirations of the nation, which were deeply embedded in the spirit of the 1971 War of Independence, remain unfulfilled to this day.

He conveyed this sentiment in a message delivered on the occasion of Independence Day on Tuesday.

Fakhrul emphasized that the nation, bound by the chains of freedom, has persistently strived for the realization of its rights since the inception of independence.

He highlighted ongoing domestic and foreign conspiracies aimed at undermining the country's independence and sovereignty.

Fakhrul expressed concern that fair elections are being undermined, leading to the disenfranchisement of the people.

In his message on Tuesday, Fakhrul extended his heartfelt wishes and congratulations to all citizens of the country, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of Independence and National Day.

He alleged that the country has fallen into anarchy due to the surge of fascism, with conspirators repeatedly attempting to derail the democratic journey initiated by President Ziaur Rahman.

Fakhrul condemned the detention of Khaleda Zia in what he deemed a fabricated case.

He also cited the sentencing and deportation of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, along with the alleged inhumane treatment of millions through disappearances, extrajudicial killings, false accusations, torture, and persecution, as evidence of the state's transformation into a "terrorist state."

Fakhrul underscored the ongoing deep-rooted conspiracies and called for national unity to safeguard the motherland's independence against all odds.

He urged the people to stand united on this momentous occasion of Independence and National Day.

Besides, Fakhrul asserted that the country has regrettably devolved into a failed state marked by rampant corruption, relentless oppression, and misrule.

Therefore, on this significant day, he appealed to all patriotic individuals, regardless of political affiliation, to unite and build a democratic state by ousting the "anti-national and anti-democratic" forces through a mass movement.
