Voting suspended in three more upazilas

Postponed due to roads, power disconnection


Voting has been suspended in three more upazilas in the third phase of the upazila parishad elections to be held on May 29.

With this, a total of 22 upazila polling were suspended.

The newly suspended upazilas are Khaliajuri in Netrokona district and Kachua and Faridganj upazilas in Chandpur district.

The election has been postponed due to the disconnection of roads in Khaliajuri upazila and power disconnection of EVMs in Kachua and Faridganj upazilas.

Earlier, elections in 19 upazila parishad were postponed due to Cyclone Remal.

The upazila parishad elections which have been suspended are - Sarankhola, Morrelganj and Mongla in Bagerhat; Koyra in Khulna, Paikgachha and Dumuria; Gaurnadi and Agailjhara in Barisal; Sadar upazila in Patuakhali, Mirzaganj and Dumki; Mathbaria in Pirojpur; Tazumuddin and Lalmohan in Bhola; Rajapur and Kathalia in Jhalakathi; Bamna and Patharghata in Barguna and Baghaichhari in Rangamati.

A total of 112 upazila parishad elections in the country were scheduled to be held in the third phase on Wednesday. Of these, 22 upazila parishad elections have been postponed.

The sixth upazila parishad elections are being held in four phases. In the first phase, voting was held in 139 upazila parishads of the country on May 8. In the second phase, voting was held in 160 upazilas on May 23. In the third phase, 112 constituencies were supposed to go to polls on May 29, but now there will be 90 constituencies. In the fourth phase, 56 upazila parishad elections will be held on June 5.
