The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to investigate a complaint lodged at Chawkbazar police station regarding the disappearance of around 150 bhori of gold ornaments from a customer's locker at Islami Bank's Chawkbazar branch in Chittagong.

Rokeya Akhter Bari, 63, filed the complaint on Monday night, detailing the missing gold ornaments.

ACC Chittagong Deputy Director Md Nazmus Sadat said: "The woman lodged a complaint at Chawkbazar police station regarding the missing gold from the locker at Islami Bank's Chawkbazar branch. As this falls under the ACC's jurisdiction, the police have accepted the complaint as a General Diary (GD) and forwarded it to the ACC Chittagong director. The complaint has now been sent to the ACC's head office in Dhaka, and the investigation will proceed as per instructions from there."

Four officials from Islami Bank have been named as defendants in the complaint filed by Rokeya Akhter Bari.

The accused include Islami Bank Managing Director Mohammed Monirul Moula, Company Secretary JQM Habibullah, Chawkbazar Branch Manager Senior Vice President SM Shafiqul Mawla Chowdhury, and locker officer Md Yunus.

Chawkbazar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Wali Uddin Akbar said: "The victim lodged a complaint on Monday night about the theft of 150 bhori of gold from Islami Bank's Chawkbazar branch. Given that the accused are bank officials and the incident occurred inside the bank, the complaint falls under the ACC's jurisdiction. Hence, the police accepted the complaint as a GD and forwarded it to the ACC Chittagong office. ACC officers will now investigate the allegations."

In her complaint, Rokeya Akhter Bari mentioned: "Since 2006, my daughter Nasreen Marjuka and I have been using a locker jointly at the Islami Bank Chawkbazar branch. There were around 150 bhori of gold ornaments belonging to me and other family members, including my daughter, in the locker. On May 29 at 1:30pm, I went to the bank to retrieve some gold ornaments. I requested Yunus, the in-charge of the locker, to open it. When he opened the locker room door, he found the locker allotted in my name already open. I was shocked when he informed me."
