Victims admitted to burn unit of DMCH
A woman and her 11-year-old son have been set on fire reportedly by her husband in Muksudpur of Gopalganj.
The burn victims were admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The incident took place at around 1am on Wednesday. The woman, Helena Akter, and her son, Antar, were asleep at the time.
Helena’s brother Imran Hossain confirmed the matter to the media, adding that Osman Sheikh had poured petrol on the duo and then set them on fire.
Helena’s brother said: “Locals rescued the duo and took them to Rajoir Hospital in Madaripur. From there, they were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. As they both sustained 50% burns, the doctor on duty referred them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”
Imran said: “My sister got married to Osman Sheikh of Dumuria village under Mochna Union 14 years ago. Since their marriage, Osman has been torturing my sister.”
Sheetal Chandra Paul, an inspector at Muksudpur police station, said preparations are underway to file a case against the accused in this regard.
