Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina waves at people at a rally of the party at Taraganj Degree College in Rangpur on Tuesday, December 26, 2023.

Highlights development activities in last 15 years

Awami League chief Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday requested all voters to go to the polling centres as early in the morning as possible and cast their ballots for boat to let her party serve them again.

Sheikh Hasina was addressing a rally at Taraganj Degree College in Rangpur. Her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, was also present at the event.

“Will you cast your votes for boat? Promise me, please raise your hands,” she urged the audience.

Introducing the Awami League-nominated candidate for Rangpur-2, Abul Kalam Md Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury (Duke), as her younger brother at the rally, she requested all to vote for him.

She also drew comparisons between her party’s electoral symbol and the boat of the Prophet Nuh, which had saved the human race during the Great Flood.

“In the last 15 years,  we have given you a hunger- and poverty-free digital Bangladesh. If we come to power this time, we will present you with a Smart Bangladesh,” she said.

Referring to the assassination of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on August 15, 1975, she said: “The motto of my politics is to implement the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. I saw people in the Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Nilphamari, and Gaibandha suffering from monga in the 80s. The Awami League has eradicated monga from these areas for good.”
