This highly anticipated project is set to be helmed by Oscar-winning directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, known for "Free Solo" and their narrative debut "Nyad", which earned Oscar nods for Annette Bening and Jodie Foster. The film's screenplay comes from Karen Tenkhoff ("The Motorcycle Diaries"), who is also producing alongside Vasarhelyi and Chin's Little Monster Films.

Gino Bartali was a celebrated Italian cyclist and one of the country's most iconic athletes before World War II, having claimed victories in both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France. During the war, he leveraged his fame to aid the Italian Resistance and assist Jews persecuted by the Nazis. 

In 2010, it was revealed that he had secretly sheltered a Jewish family in his cellar, ultimately saving their lives. Bartali passed away in 2020, having gone on to win both the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France once again after the war.
