MRT Pass/Rapid Pass needed to use metro rail before 7:30am and after 7:45pm
The Dhaka metro rail will remain operational from the Uttara North station to the one in Motijheel from 7:10am to 8:40pm from Saturday for six days a week.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique made the announcement on Thursday.
The decision to extend metro rail timings had been influenced by passenger feedback, he said.
Metro trains currently run on the Uttara-Motijheel-Uttara route from 7:30am to 12 noon and on the Uttara-Agargaon-Uttara route from 8:30am to 8:30pm.
The first train will leave Uttara at 7:10am and the last train will depart Motijheel at 8:40pm, according to the DMTCL chief.
However, only MRT Pass or Rapid Pass users can travel by metro rail before 7:30am and after 7:45pm.
During peak hours (7:10am to 11:30am and 4:01pm to 8pm) the headway will be 10 minutes, and during off-peak hours (11:30am to 4pm) the headway will be 12 minutes.
Under the updated timetable, the metro rail will continue to be closed on Fridays.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the metro rail’s Uttara-Agargaon section on December 28, 2022 and the Agargaon-Motijheel portion on November 4 last year.
