BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been receiving treatment at a private hospital in the capital for the past 18 days. According to the BNP and attending physicians, her condition is currently described as "very good."
A personal aide to Khaleda Zia, who chose to remain anonymous, reported to Dhaka Post that after inquiring about her health last night, doctors confirmed she is doing well. Despite this positive update, party officials have indicated that the exact timing of her discharge remains uncertain. A BNP medical spokesperson noted that while Khaleda Zia’s condition has improved, doctors prefer to avoid any risk by keeping her in the hospital for additional care.
Shairul Kabir Khan, a member of Khaleda Zia's media team, confirmed that she is receiving treatment in a cabin equipped with CCU facilities. He added that the party’s Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, is closely monitoring her health.
Khaleda Zia, the former Prime Minister, was admitted to the hospital on July 9 after suddenly falling ill. The 79-year-old leader is managing multiple health issues, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, kidney and lung problems, heart issues, and vision problems.
The BNP has repeatedly appealed to the government for permission to seek treatment abroad. Khaleda Zia, who was sentenced in an ACC case, has been out on parole since 2020 and has been under the care of a medical board led by cardiologist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder. During this period, she has undergone significant medical interventions, including the implantation of a heart ring and pacemaker, and received treatment from American doctors who visited Dhaka for her care.
