Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the undisputed leader of the nation and there is no scope to deny this, but attempts were made by a party to politicize him.
The attorney general's remarks to the High Court on Wednesday came during a hearing on a rule issued to explain why the 15th Amendment to the Constitution should not be declared illegal.
The High Court bench comprised Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury.
During the hearing, the attorney general also said that Article 142 of the Constitution previously included provisions for a referendum.
"This provision was removed by the 15th Amendment, but we want it reinstated. The provision was abolished through the votes of those who became MPs by stealing votes at night."
Earlier, on August 19, a High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar issued a rule asking why the 15th Amendment, which abolished the caretaker government, should not be declared illegal.
The court issued the rule following a hearing on a writ petition by Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of SHUJAN.
Notably, the 15th Amendment was passed in parliament on June 30, 2011.
Through this amendment, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was recognized as the Father of the Nation.
The caretaker government system was also abolished, and the number of reserved seats for women in the parliament was increased from 45 to 50.
