Former chief whip of the National Parliament, ASM Feroz, who was arrested in connection with the murder of a man named Sohag Mia in the Vatara area of Dhaka, has been remanded for an additional three days by the court.
On Saturday, after a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam issued the remand order.
Earlier, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman of Vatara police station, presented the accused in court and requested a seven-day remand.
Feroz's lawyer filed a bail application, seeking cancellation of the remand, while the prosecution requested a seven-day remand.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.
ASM Feroz was arrested on the night of August 23 in the Banani area of the capital. The court initially granted a seven-day remand on August 24.
The incident traces back to July 19, when Sohag Mia was shot dead by the police in front of Farazi Hospital in the Vatara area during an anti-discrimination student movement.
Sohag's father, Shafayet Hossain, filed a murder case with Vatara Police Station on August 20.
ASM Feroz, a leader of the Awami League, has been elected as a member of parliament eight times, most recently winning the Patuakhali-2 seat in the January 7 election.
