‘People will spontaneously participate in the elections’

Law Minister Anisul Huq on Wednesday said that the pro-BNP lawyers’ decision to boycott court is politically driven and represents a misguided decision by the opposition party.

Mentioning that the boycott has no value, the minister said: "The court is continuing to conduct its regular proceedings. Court judges are concentrating on their work. Dragging them (por-BNP lawyers) into a political activity is a wrong decision taken by BNP.”

Anisul Huq was replying to the journalists’ question after arriving in his constituency Brahmanbaria's Akhaura on Wednesday morning.

He said: "Their (BNP) decision to label the election as a joke is a mistake on their part. Because the people accepted the election. General people will spontaneously participate in the elections. This is evident. Whatever the BNP says, the people of Bangladesh will exercise their voting rights properly.”

At that time, the leaders and activists of Awami League and other organizations of Kasba and Akhaura upazilas were present with him.

Later, the minister left Akhaura for his home village in Kasba.

On Sunday, in solidarity with BNP's non-cooperation movement opposing the upcoming national elections, pro-BNP lawyers called for a week-long court boycott.
