Tuku, Palak, Shaikat placed on 10-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a 10-day remand for the former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former ICT state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and General Secretary of DU Chhatra League Tanbir Hasan Shaikat.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam approved the remand on Thursday afternoon in connection with a murder case filed at Paltan police station.
On Wednesday night, the three individuals were arrested from the Nikunja residential area in Khilkhet police station while they were in hiding. They were later taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office on Minto Road in the capital.
On July 19, during an anti-quota movement, rickshaw puller Kamal Mia, 39, was shot dead in the Paltan area.
On July 20, his wife, Fatema Khatun, 36, filed a murder case at Paltan police station against unknown individuals.
On Tuesday evening, former law minister Anisul Huq and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's private industry and investment advisor Salman F Rahman were arrested in a murder case filed in connection with the death of a hawker during the Revolution 2024 in front of Dhaka College on July 16. They were placed on a 10-day remand on Wednesday.
