‘Today's meeting was for briefing on progress’
The amended labour act will be passed in the next parliament session, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq said on Wednesday.
"It will definitely be brought up in the next session and passed," he said replying to a question from reporters about the possibility of passage of the amended act.
He was talking to reporters after a meeting with the officials of the Labour Ministry at the secretariat on Wednesday.
“ILO’s Governing Board meeting will be held in March. Today's meeting was for a briefing on the progress we are making and what we are doing over this labour act,” said the minister.
He also said that the prime minister has taken responsibility of this ministry. “This is a reflection of how seriously she has taken the ministry. I will brief the prime minister in this regard first then I will tell you details about it,” he said.
Replying to a question regarding lowering the threshold of conditions required to form trade unions to 10%, the law minister said: “We have discussed this today (Wednesday) as well. We are proceeding according to a decision. I have made a change as per PM's earlier instructions, I will brief PM about it very soon.”
