A Dhaka court on Thursday appointed caretakers to look after the confiscated properties of former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, his wife and children.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order after hearing a petition for appointing caretakers by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said ACC’s Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir.

He, however, said the court sought to know the overall condition of four flats of the former IGP in the capital’s Gulshan area.

The court will appoint the caretakers for the flats after knowing the full-fledged information in this regard, he said, adding that it will be known later which organizations were appointed to look after which property after getting the full text of the order.

However, the district fishery officer of Gopalganj was appointed to look after 28 ponds of the former IGP while Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner was also assigned to take care of properties there.

The ACC has so far unearthed 114 acres of land registered in the name of Benazir, his wife, three daughters and relatives.
