So far no major questions have been raised from the outside world about the acceptability of the polls. Everyone has accepted it, even though it was late, said the election commissioner.
“It was not possible to give a better election than this in the context of the country. It would have been better if all major political parties participated in the national polls,” said Anisur.
He said these things in an exchange meeting with candidates and agents in the by-election of Comilla City Corporation, on Thursday.
Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer Md Farhad Hussain, presided over the meeting He held at Comilla Circuit House Auditorium.
At the beginning of the program, candidates and their main agents delivered speeches drawing the attention of the commission on various issues.
The EC commissioner said that all types of preparation has been taken to present a free and fair election in Comilla. In this case, the rival candidates should also show generosity. Unpleasant behavior from any party is not desirable.
Regarding various complaints of candidates and agents, he said that EVMs are the most secure. One party has created unnecessary controversy about it. Due to the financial crisis, EVMs have been canceled in national elections.
When his attention was drawn regarding participation of local MPs in the election campaign, the commissioner said that he would look into the matter.
Anisur Rahman urged everyone to refrain from participating in such events for the next week which may have a negative impact on the election.
The Comilla City Corporation by-polls will be held on March 9.
The voting will be held through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
The voting will continue uninterrupted from 8am to 4pm.
On December 13, Comilla City Corporation mayor Arfanul Haque Rifat passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. The election date has been announced nearly 1.5 years after his death.
