Emphasizes promoting transparency to counter misinformation
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said the entire country is in a frenzy over the upcoming national parliamentary election.
He said this while inaugurating a training program for administration and police officers at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in Dhaka on Friday.
Awal said the entire nation is currently engrossed in discussions and debates about the election, with various countries also sending observers.
He highlighted the Election Commission's role in ensuring the visibility of the election process, promoting transparency to counter misinformation and distinguishing between truth and falsehood.
He urged officials to perform their duties with wisdom, emphasizing the collective responsibility of ensuring a genuinely free, fair, peaceful and orderly election.
Awal emphasized the pivotal role of deputy commissioners and superintendents of police in coordinating election tasks, stressing the need for a responsible exercise of power.
The CEC instructed polling officers to maintain impartiality, particularly during voting, ensuring that the people's freedom to vote is preserved.
He noted that the media will play a crucial role in highlighting the election environment, and any irregularities could raise questions about the commission's impartiality.
Awal concluded by instructing deputy commissioners, serving as returning officers, to enter polling stations, while others observe the internal environment to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
