Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will propose several reform proposals, which include balancing the powers of the president and the prime minister.
BNP has finalised the proposals in line with its 31-point outline for structural reforms and they will submit the proposals to the interim government by Monday.
The party wants a bicameral parliament and the restoration of the caretaker government system in the constitution.
The proposals include declaring equality, human dignity, and justice as the guiding principles of the constitution, according to sources.
“Sheikh Hasina's departure means 50% percent of the reforms have been completed,” said BNP Standing Committee member Major (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed. The elected representatives will carry out the main reforms in the country, he said.
He said that our basic position is to go back to the previous state, excluding the reforms that were made during the Awami League era.
We want elections by 2025, he said, adding that it is possible to hold elections by next April in this current situation.
