PM Hasina meets Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders in New Delhi

The ties between Sheikh Hasina and the Gandhi family have deep roots
A day after attending Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing in ceremony, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday met with senior congress leader Sonia Gandhi along with Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Taking to X the Congress posted photographs stating: "CPP Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi ji, former Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi, and General Secretary Smt Priyanka Gandhi Vadra ji called on the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wazed ji this afternoon in New Delhi."
The ties between Sheikh Hasina and the Gandhi family have deep roots, tracing back to their predecessors.
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh and father of Sheikh Hasina, shared a warm relationship with Indira Gandhi, the prime minister of India during the early 1970s.
Indira Gandhi played a key role in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, providing support for Bangladesh's independence from Pakistan.
Indian Union Cabinet Minister and former External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Monday also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her Place of Residence in New Delhi.
He said: "Honoured to call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh today (Monday). The India-Bangladesh friendship continues to advance. "
