Awami League confident of winning
The Awami League won in five constituencies in Sunday’s general election.
Advocate Motiar Rahman from Lalmonirhat -3, Zunaid Ahmed Palak from Natore 3, Ataul Haque Dolon from Satkhira 4, Md Anwarul Azim Anar from Jhenaidah-4, and Md Mazharul Islam from Thakurgaon-2 won unofficially.
Earlier in the day, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader expressed confidence that the Boat would emerge victorious in this election.
Meanwhile, Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua said that the turnout of voters in the 12th parliamentary election was satisfactory despite the terrorism and anti-election activities of the BNP.
Balloting in the 12th national polls in Bangladesh ended on Sunday amidst a largely peaceful environment.
Voting began at 8am at 261,912 polling booths in 42,024 voting centres and continued until 4pm with 299 parliamentary seats up for election.
However, centres where people are still waiting to exercise their franchise will continue to accept votes.
Polls were deferred in one seat at the death of a candidate.
