Quader: No logical justification to impose sanctions on Bangladesh

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said that there is no logical reason for the US to impose sanctions on the government, rather, the sanctions should be imposed on those disrupting the elections.

He was speaking at a press conference held at the Awami League President's political office in Dhanmondi.

Obaidul Quader said: "This time, the US has imposed restrictions on 37 people from 13 countries for violating human rights. They impose sanctions on anyone who hinder or attempt to obstruct the election process."

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has repeatedly asserted that our elections will be free, fair and impartial. Therefore, we do not see any logical reason for ban. Rather, those who have chosen the path of vandalism and arson to disrupt the election should be sanctioned. BNP's election-centric movement failed. Now they are carrying out arson attacks,” he added.

Obaidul Quader said that those who talk about human rights, they do not talk about the killings of August 15 and 21 and the oppression of the coalition government. The history of human rights in Bangladesh is very tragic.

“On August 15, we saw that many of those who speak about human rights are silent about the brutal killing of innocent women, children and pregnant women in their families. Many of them obeyed dictators. And now they talk about human rights,” the Awami League leader said.
