Designate Chhatra League a terrorist organisation: Mahmudur

Daily Amar Desh’s Editor Mahmudur Rahman has demanded designating Awami League’s student front Chhatra League a terrorist organisation.

“Ban Chhatra League within a week,” he demanded at a views exchange meeting at the National Press Club on Sunday (October 6).

Rahman also raised some demands, including forming a committee to ensure the treatment and rehabilitation of those injured in the student-led mass movement that toppled the Awami League government.

Chhatra League and other affiliated organisations of the Awami League actively tried to thwart the mass movement, in which more than 1,600 people were killed and 31,000 others were injured.

Mahmudur Rahman was sentenced in absentia to seven years for “plotting to kill” Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy. He returned home on September 27 from Turkey.

A Dhaka court initially rejected his bail petition and sent him to jail on September 29. On October 3, another Dhaka court granted him bail in the case. He walked out of jail that afternoon.
