Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered flooding from hill torrents, submerging the Khagrachari-Sajek road and completely cutting off vehicle access to Sajek, leaving over 200 tourists stranded.
On Tuesday afternoon, the road section in the Kabakhali area of Dighinala Upazila on the Khagrachari-Sajek route was submerged.
Local sources report that the road to Sajek, which connects it with Rangamati, Baghaichhari, and Langadu upazilas, has been inundated, causing a suspension of all transportation.
Tourists who traveled to Sajek are now stranded until water levels subside.
Bishwajit Chakraborty, secretary of Sajek Union Parishad, said that the Baghaihat market and Machalong Bridge in Sajek are also submerged, disrupting road connectivity.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shirin Akhter said that the road in the Kabakhali area of Dighinala is underwater, halting vehicle movement. As a result, tourists who arrived in Sajek on Monday and Tuesday are stranded, with the estimated number of affected tourists being several hundred.
