Workers from a ready-made garments (RMG) factory have blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, demanding payment of overdue salaries of two months.
Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Comilla has come to a standstill since Friday morning.
Workers of the denim processing plant stated they were forced to stage a protest because the factory owners had not disbursed their overtime pay and salaries for the past two months.
The one-and-a-half-hour blockade has resulted in a traffic jam stretching at least 10 kilometers on both sides of the highway.
Ambulances carrying patients and other passengers have been severely affected.
Ikbar Bahar Majumder, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mainamati Highway police station, said: "I am heading to the site. Efforts are underway to alleviate the traffic congestion."
