The envoy will rejoin before the election
Bangladesh Ambassador in United States Muhammad Imran is on a sanctioned leave, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen has said.
"After two years we are entitled to take a leave. He is entitled to take one month leave. But he took less than a month leave," he said, while replying to a question.
This issue came up as a Bangla daily, Manabzamin, reported that Ambassador Imran went on a leave for indefinite period. The newspaper also raised questions about his leave and his whereabouts.
The foreign secretary brushed aside any speculations and said ambassadors can take leave for many reasons from medical emergency to personal home leave.
"His (Imran's) was a sanctioned leave. It's an old application. We just approved it now. He will join even before the election," he said.
