Cyclone Remal triggers thunderstorms, rough seas in Cox's Bazar

The adverse weather is likely to persist for 1-2 days
An extreme adverse weather is prevailing in Cox's Bazar under the influence of cyclone Remal.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds have been blowing in the district since 11am on Monday.
The sea is very rough as large waves are crashing on the shorelines.
Abdul Hannan, a meteorologist at Cox's Bazar meteorological office, said the maritime port of Cox's Bazar has been asked to hoist local cautionary signal 3.
The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist in Cox's Bazar for another one or two days due to the cyclone. Heavy rainfall poses a risk of landslides, and there's concern about potential damage to the Rohingya camp if the storm intensifies, he added.
Fortunately, no major damage has been reported in the district so far.
The severe cyclonic storm Remal over Koyra, Khulna has now moved northwards and weakened into a land deep depression over Jessore and adjoining areas.
It is likely to move northeastwards further and weaken into a land depression by giving precipitation gradually, said a special weather bulletin by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Monday.
Maritime ports of Payra and Mongla have been advised to lower danger signal no 10 and hoist local cautionary signal no 3.
Meanwhile, maritime ports of Cox's Bazar and Chittagong have been advised to lower danger signal no 9 and hoist local cautionary signal no 3.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter until Tuesday morning and proceed cautiously.
