The Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called for the recognition of those killed in the 24th uprising as 'national heroes'. Shafiqur Rahman.
He said that people of all classes of the country participated in this coup. Even everyone outside the country fought us according to their means. We congratulate and thank them all. He wished for the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs and the highest dignity of martyrdom.
He made this comment at a 'Meet the Press' function with Bengali media journalists in the UK at a restaurant in East London on Tuesday (November 19).
Jamaat's Amir said, "Apart from monetary remittances, I am appealing to the expatriates to send intelligence remittances to Bangladesh. Intelligence remittances will be of great help in intellectual development in Bangladesh. In this way, expatriates will be able to contribute immensely to build the dream Bangladesh.'
Referring to the rampant corruption of the previous government. Shafiq said that the amount of development that could have been done has not actually happened. The cost shown in a development project in Bangladesh, in other countries of our region, such development projects have been completed at one-third of the cost. No project has been completed on time in our country, time after time has been extended and the cost of the project has also been increased. This is how the country has been looted and destitute.
In response to a question from journalists about the role of 1971, he said, "If we have done anything wrong in 1971 and if it is proven beyond doubt, I will apologize to the nation." In the observation of the trial in the name of war crime tribunal in our country in the judgment of British Court Chowdhury Mainuddin, the judges here called that judgment Genocide of Justice. 15 years did not allow us to sit in our office, did not allow us to speak, did not allow us to hold any rally. We could not reach the nation through journalists.
Dr. Shafiq also said that we could not progress as a nation due to ethnic disunity and corruption. Corruption is a national shame for us. The UK has been able to keep itself largely free of corruption and has earned itself a prestigious place around the world. But we couldn't. Society will not be clean if those who will run the society are not clean.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami European Spokesperson Barrister Abu Bakar Molla was also present at the 'Meet the Press' event. Under the direction of Abu Saleh Yahya, Imam Uddin recited from the Quran and artist Kamal Hossain sang a patriotic song. More than half a century journalists from various Bengali media in UK participated in it.
